Geeks Vs Inteligence
Hey guys, I would really want to have a small discussion please be best and giving out an output. Kinda simple and random la. How do you classify a geek. Most people tend to assume that geeks are smart; but are they. I think they are just knowledgeable…not smart and no where near intelligent.. hahahah You can be a geek, can i say that wanting to be a geek is actually a wanna be intelligent dude.. like those teenage rapper wannabes that cant rap for nuts ?? all this started when….
Why because i have been paying attention to a whats i can depict as a “geek”; but at the end of the day – what the person seems to be projecting is all just “sorry am too smart and intelligent for you, i don’t wanna waste my time with you.” too bad am beginning to judge people now. But honestly ; aren’t geeks the one that just knows everything and that’s just it– how can someone label a geek an intelligent person ???

To me, a geek is someone who is passionately interested about a subject, sometimes to the extent they sacrifice normal sociable activities (like going out with friends, watching movies, having normal relationships etc.), just so they can focus on pursuing knowledge in that one particular area. They are very specialised (e.g. IT geek, or telco geek, book geek) and thus, does not necessarily have all rounded common knowledge per se.

no – nerd is not a slang, but it is not very complimentary i think. and i agree – intelligent ppl are not necessarily nerds either!
Let’s just put it this way, all nerds are geeks but not all geeks are nerds.
Intelligence is subjective, imho. A person can be selectively intelligent in certain subjects. For example, the fishmonger at the market is knows everything and anything about seafood – a physics professors knows everything about the e=mc2 and relativity equations. Would you say one is more intelligent than the other? I would say all nerds and all geeks are intelligent in their own manner.
Now, a smartass on the other hand is a person who knows *some* (maybe a bit more than the average) but acts like they know it all, is rude and puts others down to reflect whatever shortcomings they might have. Some nerds and some geeks are smartasses, let’s get that out of the way. But not all smartasses are geeks or nerds. They just have an attitude problem. Their parents probably spared the rod a little too much.
